I have enjoyed using the American Express Platinum Travel Card everywhere, and it’s one of the best cards I’ve ever had!
And it’s been eight months since I started using this card, which came with a generous base limit. Recently, I completed the Rs. 4,00,000 milestone on this card and thought it was the right time to request a limit enhancement to suit my needs better.
So, I contacted Amex customer support through their helpline number (1-800-419-1230, Monday to Friday, 9:30 AM to 6:00 PM) and officially requested a limit enhancement.
As far as I know, Amex has stopped offering generous limit enhancements, especially to people who already have higher limits. But to my surprise, I received an upgrade – more than 60%, which was a pleasant experience!
Eligibility Criteria for Limit Enhancement
American Express (Amex) does not publicly list rigid eligibility criteria for credit limit enhancement on the Platinum Travel Card, but here I’m sharing some requirements and best practices that are evident from official guidance and user experiences:
- Minimum Account Age:
You typically need to have held your Amex Platinum Travel Card for at least 6 months before you become eligible to request a credit limit increase. Some people claims they got limit enhancement after 60-days of usage, but 6 months is more commonly referenced for manual reviews and higher chances of approval. - Good Payment History:
If you’re consistently making on-time payments and full payments, it will demonstrates creditworthiness and increases your chances of approval. - Active Card Usage:
If you’re using your card on regular basis, especially with significant spending (such as nearing milestone spends), can improve your eligibility for both automatic and requested limit increases. - Income Proof:
Amex doesn’t ask me about this, but most people have shared that they need to provide updated income documentation, especially if they claim a recent salary increase or report a higher income than initially declared.
💡 Something to note…
If Amex has declined your credit limit increase request, they may suggest waiting for one month or sometimes three months before reapplying. In this case, you can request them for limit enhancement after three-months of your card usage.
Have you applied for the limit enhancement yet? If you have, don’t forget to share your story in the comments section below.
Till then, best of luck!
